With the appearance of haze grows a dire need for face masks. But deciding on the type of mask for haze is a tough job to do. The haze contains a lot of dust, smoke and harmful particles. You have to keep yourself protected from all of these for good health.
There are various kinds of masks people like to wear for protection from the haze. Here are some of the most useful ones among them.
1. Surgical masks
Surgical masks are not as effective as N95 masks. You can wear them only when you do not find the N95 mask or you can’t afford one. They come with two straps, one on each side. You can easily find them in pharmacies and hospitals. They are one of the cheapest options for protecting yourself against the haze.
Respirators are used for protecting the wearer from harmful chemicals, fumes, vapors and dust found in the air. There are mainly two forms of respirators – disposable respirators and reusable respirators.
Let’s take a look at them one by one.
- Disposable Respirators
These respirators can remove the very tiny fine particles from the air you breathe. These devices are approved by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and have the word NIOSH printed on them. You can also find numbers like letters and numbers written on them like N95, N99, N100, R95, R99, R100, P95, P99 or P100. Among all these masks, N95 is the most popular one. Let’s understand more about this mask.
– N95 mask
This is considered to be the best mask for haze protection. It is a disposable respirator that effectively filters out fine particles from getting into the body. You can get these masks from commercial medical stores and online stores. The price of this mask is on the higher side. But, considering the level of protection it provides, it is worth it.
Also, there’s EN 149 mask which is popular in the European nations. EN 149 masks are very effective in filtering out the fine particles in the air. These are as effective as the N95 masks. In fact, we can say that these are the European versions of the N95 mask.
- Reusable Respirators
Reusable Respirators are used by workers, firefighters and people who work with chemicals. They are available in either full face or half face. You can find these in small, medium and large sizes. So, you can get the perfect fit for your face. However, they are not fit to be worn by small kids.
These are one of the best options for filtering out the harmful particles from the air you breathe. The filters in these devices last longer and they can be used multiple times.
3. Cotton masks
These are basically dust masks meant for protection against dust and smoke. You can use these as masks for the haze. It is better than a surgical mask but less effective than an N95 mask. Most of these masks are available in attractive colours and patterns. So, if you are looking for something that meets your requirement for protection and provides comfort, this is the right one for you. You can also make such masks at home.
